Lake Monticello Fire & Rescue Bids a Fond Farewell to Don Morton
Yesterday, April 1, 2017, Lake Monticello Volunteer Fire and Rescue and Fluvanna Country Rescue Squad honored one of its own, Don Thomas Morton, in a memorial service held at the Fluvanna Baptist Church in Scottsville, Virginia. Don passed away peacefully on Monday, March 27, 2017, at his home surrounded by family. Don served on both the Lake Monticello Rescue Squad and Water Rescue Team. Don served as an ambulance driver from January 2011 to September 2015 standing watch at Station 5 over 300 twelve-hour shifts representing an investment in his time of over 3600 hours of volunteer time and driving on 726 rescue calls. Beyond his driving duties, Don was a tireless worker. He would always be found working somewhere around the station. Don’s humble but determined attitude of serving others was an inspiration to all who served with him.
In tribute to Don’s service, the Lake Monticello Volunteer Fire Department flew the stars and stripes high over several emergency vehicles representing both Lake Monticello Volunteer Fire and Rescue and Fluvanna County Rescue. At the end of the memorial service the Fluvanna County dispatch transmitted a county wide “Last Call” honoring Don and thanking him for his service. Godspeed Don.
