Thank you for your interest in the Lake Monticello Volunteer Rescue Squad (LMVRS)! LMVRS is a 24 hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week emergency medical services agency certified by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Office of Emergency Medical Services, and operating under prehospital medical protocols for this area of Virginia. Our organization performs prehospital care and transport to area hospitals for patients who have called 911 for emergency assistance.
General Requirements:
- Commitment to one 12-hour duty shift per week.
- Night Shift: 1800-0600
- Day Shift: 0600-1800
- CPR Certification
- LMVRS can help with this requirement for applicants that don't currently have it.
- Fulfillment of the requirements of either an EMT or a driver.
EMT Requirements:
- Certified, at minimum, as an EMT-B in the state of Virginia.
- Typically 120-hour course over a 4-month period with classes meeting 2+ times weekly for 2-3 hours.
- Following the course, students' skills are assessed via a hands-on psychomotor examination and cognitively via a computerized multiple-choice test.
- LMVRS is also looking for ALS (Advanced Life Support) Providers!
- EMTs are responsible for patient care before and during transport to the hospital.
- Conditional membership is available for prospective members currently completing their required certifications.
Driver Requirements:
- Obtained, at minimum, an EVOC Class 2 Certification.
- This involves two 8-hour days of classroom instruction and one skills assessment day.
- Drivers are responsible for being able to navigate to both the location of the emergency and the hospital, helping with patient extrication, and assisting with sanitation after a call is completed.
